#6: "It Bit Off Her Buttocks"

Stephen Wood and Mitchell Perry are not joined by Nathan Douglas as they had hoped, so they read bits of his Twitter feed and replace him with the omnipotent but usually silent technical brains of the operation, Elliott Scholey.

In this episode, a literal one-armed bandit, Elliott does it his way, the show starts to resemble Harry Hill’s TV Burp, Stephen gets dramatic and there are exclusive interviews going behind the scenes of the sure-to-be-a-hit Rawson: The Movie, the best political comedy media studies project of the decade so far!

If you’re curious about Rawson, have a look at the trailer.

#5: "The Goat Killer of Britain"

The Gods of fate were against us with this episode. Nonetheless, we struggled through technical issues and problematic computers to deliver “The Goat Killer of Britain”. It sounds bonkers, and it is. But what else can you expect from the latest police line-up rejects: Stephen and Mitchell being joined this week by Andy “The Twin” Stevens?

In this episode, there’s plenty of fat people getting up to all sorts, ginger people are being rewarded for their hair colour, Andy reveals he’s best friends with the president of Pakistan, some generous plugging for the upcoming Back To The ’80s production (March 9, 10 and 11 – get your tickets as soon as you can) and some funky new sound effects to entertain your ears.

You’ve got an iPod? Nice! Well, why not point it towards The Gist of iTunes? You know who else is on iTunes? The Who. We like The Who, and mean no copyright infringement by using a tiny little clip of their music in this episode.

#4: "That Mitchell & Wood Look"

Did you miss us?

It’s been nearly a month since episode 3 – Edit Point! – because of the equipment being snatched for the Battle of the Bands competition and then we were all snowed in and daubing “redrum” on the walls. Stephen Wood and Mitchell Perry are joined by a returning guest – Joe Cullen! (Remember him, from episode 2?)

In this episode, Mitchell can’t pronounce Chinese place names, we drop song titles into conversation, tips on getting past a drive-thru with no car, and keep listening for a fantastic musical number!

If you want each podcast automatically downloaded to your iThingy, we’re also available on iTunes.

I’d just like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah, and we hope to see you again as we progress forward into the new year.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Temple Moor Radio this year, and as Christmas dinners settle, I hope we can start to plan for what could be a fantastic year ahead.

Thanks again,

Elliott

#3: "Edit Point!"

Surfing the digital audio waves into your auditory canals for this episode of The Gist of It is Stephen, Mitchell and the guest vocal chords of Alex Thompson. Let their (mostly) co-ordinated babble flow into your ears and enjoy the lighter side of current affairs from Temple Moor Radio.

In this episode, we uncover the dark side of gnomes, Stephen sings, Mitchell texts his friends, we reveal the plot of Jurassic Park IV and don’t forget to leave your suggestions for karaoke/end music/impressions in the comments!

You’ll need to download this file, playing back on the website causes problems.

#2: "Whisky Nuns & Heavy Metal Monks"

Ahoy-hoy! Welcome aboard the good ship Gist Of It. Captaining your auditory voyage into the turbulent seas of current affairs is Stephen, with second-in-command Mitchell, navigator Jamie and cabin boy Joe.

Due to technical gremlins, the team’s introduction to who they are has disappeared.

In this show, Stephen is forced to make several apologies, the Loch Ness monster’s death is revealed, Mitchell does an impression of Sean Connery and there’s news about Fratello Metallo – who you can listen to here (once you’ve finished the podcast, of course!).

#1: "Big Butter Conspiracy"

Welcome to the first episode of the brand new podcast, The Gist of It. Presented by the trio of Stephen, Mitchell and Matty, TGOI will guide you through the latest news stories and deliver their own commentary as they delve deep into the headlines and then get distracted by something irrelevant.

In this show, there’s a clumsy man in an ejector seat, Bono has an irony bypass, Stephen admits his love for David Hasslehoff’s music and our diligent, intrepid reporting uncovers a global butter conspiracy!

Just in case anyone has lost or misplaced the letter issued on 10th July, a copy is given below with information relating to the start of the 09/10 academic year.

Dear Parent/Carer

As we approach the end of the academic year, I would like to thank you for all your support. The arrangements for the final day of term will be that the students will follow a programme of sessions which will prepare them for our new ways of working in the Autumn and they will be dismissed from school at 12.10pm.  Any student who is entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a meal.

There are a number of changes for September which are as follows:

School Day and Breaks

The school will move to a 2 breaks system of  30 minutes.  During these times all students will have the opportunity to socialise and use the canteen facilities.

Registration will be moved to 10.25am and  first lesson will begin at 8.25am.
Punctuality is therefore essential.

Pastoral Systems

All years have been designated a Head of Year (HoY) who will follow them through their school career from Year 8 to Year 1 1.  All students will meet their HoY on the last day of term

Standards
The school is proud of its standards which we believe are the route of our success. I would like to take the opportunity to gain your support on emphasising the importance of attendance, punctuality and uniform.  A reminder of the correct uniform is:

  • Grey Trousers or skirt (not charcoal)
  • Black or brown shoes (not trainers)
  • Outdoor coat (no hooded tops or fleeces)

Can I also remind you that mobile phones and  MP3 players are strictly forbidden.
Any found will be confiscated and returned at the end of the week to a parent.

First day  back arrangements

Students to arrive and depart at the following times:
Friday 4th September

Year 13                1 .00pm  to            2.50pm
Monday  7th September

Year 7                  8.25am  to     2.50pm
Year 8                 1025am  to     12.20pm
Years 9, 10 & 11       12.50pm  to    2.50pm
Years 12 & 13         8.25am  to     2.50pm

Students will receive timetables, have a tour of the school and be updated on school
procedures.

I  wish  you  all  a  fantastic  summer  break  and  look forward  to  working with  you  again  in
September.

Best wishes

Martin Fleetwood
